Last Sunday, I broke down and bought a non-3G iPad.  I just was too damn curious.  Walked into the Apple Store, played with it for 5 minutes, gave them my credit card, and walked out 15 minutes later.

Brought it home, set it up, downloaded some interesting stuff, and had a blast.  Big geek fun.

I then went off to work for the week, and left it home.  And that’s when things got interesting …

Dieses Ding mit einem (bezahlbaren) 3G-Vertrag ist sowas von perfekt für alle, denen bisher “normale” Computer zu umständlich, zeitraubend oder schlicht ein Mysterium waren.

Während ich mit dem alten Computer also 2.5 Jahre durch die ganze Welt gefahren bin ohne daß das Gerät total auseinander gefallen ist, hat der Apple in sechs Monaten eine defekte Platte, einen defekten Lüfter, ein auseinander fallendes Netzteil und ein nicht funktionierendes Tastaturlicht geloggt – ich bin schwer beeindruckt. Ich beschloß also nach sechs Monaten einmal für einen Tag auf den Rechner als mein Werkzeug zu verzichten und den Service in Anspruch zu nehmen und die Sachen gesammelt reparieren zu lassen.

Keine gute Idee.

Isotopp ist nicht sehr glücklich mit seinem Macbook Pro.

In this patent, Apple makes no attempt to hide the fact that it’s essentially an attempt to enforce something like DRM on the pairing of clothing with technology. The company specifically cites the Nike+iPod system as an example of a system that works with a specially-made shoe: Nike+ shoes that have a little crevice cut out under the sole that allows you to place the transmitter inside the shoe, which wirelessly sends data to your iPod about your walk or run. “However, some people have taken it upon themselves to remove the sensor from the special pocket of the Nike+.TM. shoe and place it at inappropriate locations (shoelaces, for example) or place it on non-Nike+.TM. model shoes,” writes Apple.

Kaum zwei Tage hier und schon gibt’s ein Update. Ich werde aber kaum von Verbesserungen berichten können, nach nur einem Tag bzw. einer Batterieladung Erfahrung mit der alten Version.

Im Moment habe ich eher den Eindruck, iTunes bräuchte dringend ein paar Bugfixes. Das ist nicht aus Spaß auf Englisch eingestellt. Andernfalls schmiert es sofort kommentarlos ab, sobald das iPhone angeschlossen ist. Es hat mich ein paar Stunden gekostet, das rauszufinden.

Ebenso einige Stunden hat es mich gekostet rauszufinden, dass Probleme beim Update auf 7.7.1 und auf 8 nur dann passieren, wenn es auf Englisch eingestellt ist. Prima Sache das. Irgendwas ist hier kaputt.
