Die erste TV-Sendung im iTunes Store, die mich fast zum Kauf verleiten könnte.

Kaum zwei Tage hier und schon gibt’s ein Update. Ich werde aber kaum von Verbesserungen berichten können, nach nur einem Tag bzw. einer Batterieladung Erfahrung mit der alten Version.
Im Moment habe ich eher den Eindruck, iTunes bräuchte dringend ein paar Bugfixes. Das ist nicht aus Spaß auf Englisch eingestellt. Andernfalls schmiert es sofort kommentarlos ab, sobald das iPhone angeschlossen ist. Es hat mich ein paar Stunden gekostet, das rauszufinden.
Ebenso einige Stunden hat es mich gekostet rauszufinden, dass Probleme beim Update auf 7.7.1 und auf 8 nur dann passieren, wenn es auf Englisch eingestellt ist. Prima Sache das. Irgendwas ist hier kaputt.
iTunes und andere mp3 Player
Einer der Gründe für den Erfolg des iPod ist (neben dem coolen Brand natürlich) die gut gemachte Integration mit iTunes. Songs müssen nicht mühsam manuell per Explorer hin- und hergeschoben und gelöscht werden*, sondern iTunes übernimmt die ganze Arbeit, indem es entweder die komplette Musikbibliothek oder per Playliste ausgewählte Teile daraus mit dem iPod synchronisiert. Natürlich gibt es auch andere Player, die das inzwischen mit ihrer eigenen Software können, aber Ihr hättet mal das gequälte Gesicht eines Bekannten sehen sollen, als ich ihn auf das entsprechende Tool von Sony ansprach…
Leider kann iTunes diese Funktionen ausschließlich mit dem iPod bedienen, andere Player bleiben außen vor. Obwohl dem technisch gesehen nichts entgegenspricht, weiß das Apple-Management sehr genau, was es an dieser Exklusivität hat.
Schön, wenn andere in die Bresche springen. Wie z.B. der iTunes Agent:
iTunes Agent is a small application resting in your system tray constantly looking for new MP3 players and other music capable devices connecting to your system. When a device it recognizes is connected to the system, it will create a playlist for the device in iTunes and it will synchronize that list with tracks on your device.
You may then modify this list, add and remove tracks, before you tell the iTunes Agent to synchronize the list with your player.
Nicht ganz so komfortabel wie mit dem iPod, aber immerhin.

mt-daapd on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server (7)
mt-daapd is an open source tool for Linux to stream music to a local network using Apple’s daap protocol. The Windows and MacOS client iTunes can access a music library served by mt-daapd using it’s „shared library“ feature. It’s using Apple’s zeroconf protocol, so no configuration is needed on the client side.
This enables you e.g. to keep all your mp3s on a single server in your subnet and access them from every PC or Mac simultaneously.
There is some documentation on the sourceforge project page but due to the early project stage it lacks some details. So here’s how I did it.
